Pong Dam

Pong dam is built on the Beas river in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. This dam is constructed for generating hydroelectricity and for irrigation purposes. This dam is based on the foothills of the Shivalik and is a dreamlike beauty and abundant natural environment which is contracted in 1975. It is also called has Beas Dam, the area has rich wildlife and is a breeding ground of viable fish. Behind the dam, there is a reservoir, which is popularly known as Maharana Pratap Sagar is a home for a large number of birds and hence, it was converted into Bird Sanctuary. The natural beauty of this place is added by its surrounding dense forest which is a natural habitat of various flora and fauna species. The region has been declared as one of the 27 international wetland sites by Ramsar Conventions owing to its rich wildlife and vegetation cover.
